Like me, Linda finds it impossible to resist the tantric tunes of tuvar.:) She is featuring, of all the ingredients in the world, the \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cToor Dal\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d for <a href=\"http:\/\/outofthegarden.wordpress.com\/2007\/11\/08\/hooray-its-my-turn-jfi-december\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jihva December<\/a>. And, on her latest post, <a href=\"http:\/\/outofthegarden.wordpress.com\/\">she has written<\/a>\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u00a6<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em> &#8220;Day and night, I couldn\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2t stop thinking about toor dal \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2till one morning I found myself wanting to toss some toor dal into a bowl of cottage cheese and sprinkle some sambhar powder, just to see how that would taste. I may be slightly obsessed.:)&#8221; <\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>You are my toor dal dosth, dear Linda. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Here is another one for you. A curry with fresh tuvar and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nandyala.org\/mahanandi\/archives\/category\/indian-vegetables\/beera-kaayaridege-gourd\/\" target=\"_blank\">turai<\/a>. Two fine Indian ingredients and one delightful dish. Perfect for chapatis, and for Jihva.<\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/mahanandi\/images\/toordal\/kandipappucopyrightedimage5.jpg\" class=\"noborder\" alt=\"Fresh Tuvar (Toor Dal, Kandulu)\" \/><br \/>\n<font face=georgia> Fresh Tuvar (pacchi kandulu) <\/font><font><\/font><\/center><\/p>\n<p><strong>Recipe:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>1 tablespoon peanut oil<br \/>\nPinch each &#8211; cumin and mustard seeds, and a sprig of curry leaves<br \/>\n&frac14; cup &#8211; finely sliced onion or shallot (Erra gadda)<br \/>\n1 cup &#8211; fresh tuvar (Pacchi Kandulu)<br \/>\n2 cups &#8211; finely cut <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nandyala.org\/mahanandi\/archives\/category\/indian-vegetables\/beera-kaayaridege-gourd\/\" target=\"_blank\">turai (ridge gourd or beerakaya)<\/a><br \/>\n2 tablespoons &#8211; fresh coconut, grated<br \/>\n1 teaspoon &#8211; finely ground green chilli<br \/>\n&frac14; teaspoon or to taste, &#8211; salt and turmeric<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In a wide skillet, heat oil until a curry leaf tossed in it sizzles.<br \/>\nAdd and toast curry leaves, cumin and mustard seeds.<br \/>\nWait for the mustard seeds to splutter and then add onions and fresh tuvar.<br \/>\nFrequently stirring, saute them to tender.<br \/>\nAdd the turai pieces. Sprinkle the coconut, green chilli, salt and turmeric.<br \/>\nMix and cook covered for about 5-10 minutes, on medium-high, until the water leaked from turai evaporates. Serve hot with chapatis.<\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/mahanandi\/images\/toordal\/kandipappucopyrightedimage6.jpg\" class=\"noborder\" alt=\"Tuvar and Turai Curry with Chapatis\" \/><br \/>\n<small>Tuvar and Turai Subji with Chapatis, Gulab Jamun and Coconut Water ~ for <a href=\"http:\/\/outofthegarden.wordpress.com\/2007\/11\/08\/hooray-its-my-turn-jfi-december\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jihva-Toor Dal<\/a><\/small><\/center><\/p>\n<p><small>Notes:<br \/>\nFresh Tuvar beans (frozen) are available at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cuisinecuisine.com\/IndianGroceryStoresinUS.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Indian grocery shops<\/a>. 12 oz packets, priced at 2 or 3 dollars.
